Aberdeen Physiotherapy – Our Team

Aberdeen Physiotherapy was established in 1978 and has a reputation as one of Aberdeen’s leading physiotherapy practices. All our physiotherapists are experienced, fully qualified and state registered. They are all members of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.

Susan Spence
Proprietor

Susie graduated in Glasgow in 1987 and started her career in the NHS before moving to Aberdeen Physiotherapy in 2006. She has also worked within occupational health, dealing with work related injuries.  She has experience in sports injuries having worked with sports teams including the Scottish badminton team and has recently completed training with the Running Clinic. Susie has a special interest in treating spinal problems and has a post graduate certificate in spinal manual therapy. She is trained in Acupuncture and is a fully qualified Pilates Instructor. Recently, Susie has developed an interest in pain management.

Aimee Urquhart
Physiotherapist

Aimee graduated from RGU in 2004 and also has a degree in Physiology. She combines working in the NHS, where she specialises in Rheumatology, with private work. Aimee has experience of working with sports teams and has worked in occupational health, dealing with work related problems. She has completed a diploma with the Society of Orthopaedic Medicine and is also trained in acupuncture, Pilates and Tai Chi.

Val Paterson
Practice Manager

Val has been with the practice since 2000 and took over the role of Practice Manager in 2007. She is responsible for all management and administration of the practice with the assistance of our Receptionists.

Sandra Athawes
Physiotherapist

Sandra graduated in Edinburgh in 1987. She has many years of experience of working in private physiotherapy practice treating general musculo-skeletal problems. Sandra is also qualified in Acupuncture.

Stewart MacDonald
Physiotherapist

Stewart graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University with a 1st Class Honours Degree in physiotherapy. Working within the NHS and the Private sector Stewart has a keen interest in Musculoskeletal and Sports Injuries and has been part of the physiotherapy team at the World Badminton championships in Glasgow and to a National League Division 2 rugby club.

Gemma
Physiotherapist

Gemma graduated from RGU in 2014. She has a keen interest in sporting injuries having worked with local sports teams on a voluntary basis as a student. Gemma has post graduate certificates in Sports Massage Therapy and Spinal Manual Therapy.  She has recently completed training in Pilates and Acupuncture.

Emma Patterson
Physiotherapist

Emma qualified from RGU in 2006. Beginning her career in the NHS and overseas in New Zealand prior to joining Aberdeen Physiotherapy in 2010. She is fully qualified in acupuncture, Pilates and kinesiology taping. Fully competent in all musculoskeletal areas with a post graduate certificate in spinal manual therapy and further training in knee, shoulder and temporomandibular rehabilitation. Emma has a keen interest in sports injuries having gained experience with football clubs in the UK and Ghana. She was also a Lead Physiotherapist in the roads team at Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Amanda Bergh
Physiotherapist

Amanda qualified from Glasgow Caledonian University in 2007 with a BSc in physiotherapy. She combines work within the NHS with private work and also has experience working for a Highland League football team. Amanda is interested in musculoskeletal problems and has completed qualifications in Acupuncture.

Physiotherapist

Laura graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University in 2012 and joined our team in December 2015. She combines NHS and private work and has experience of working in sport with rugby teams. Laura is working towards her diploma with the Society of Orthopaedic Medicine.

Amanda Gartshore
Receptionist

Amanda works part-time on our reception. She has been a member of the team since April 2015.
